RECEIPT FROM PONET & ORR, UNDERTAKERS FOR F. P. F. TEMPLE FUNERAL SERVICES
Color: Black; White
A receipt from undertakers Ponet and Orr for funeral services provided for F. P. F. Temple, dated 3 May 1880. The form has three sections: at the top right is information on the company, including the name of the principals, Benjamin F. Orr and Victor Ponet and the statements "IMPORTERS OF ALL VARIETIES OF BURIAL CASES" and "PARTICULAR ATTENTION GIVEN TO DISINTERRING BODIES AND PREPARING THEM FOR THE ATLANTIC STATES AND ELSEWHERE." There are also lines for the date and the client, in this case the estate of Temple. At the upper left, in a border, is the statement "SOLE AGENTS / FOR / BARSTOW'S PATENT / METALIC / BURIAL CASES! / AND / CASKETS / TERMS CASH / Payable in U. S. Gold Coin." At the bottom half of the document is the area for listing services and products provided in columns arranged in ledger form. Under the date "April 28" are the following items: "1 metalic Casket / Hearse / Plate & Engraving / 8 [Sashes?] & 1 Dozen Gloves / 6 yards Crape / Disinfecting & Attendance." Prices for each item are listed in the columns to the right and are "[$] 250.00 / 35.00 / 10.00 / 8.00 / 6.00 / 15.00." The total is at the furthest right column and is "$324.00." At the bottom of the document, at the center, is the inscription "On Payment / W [?] Ponet & Orr." The document was folded into sixths. Temple died of apoplexy on 27 April 1880 and was buried at the family cemetery on the Workman Homestead the following day. In fair condition, the artifact has tears at the ends of two folds, creases, a fingerprint stain at the upper right of the front, and discoloration.
